Introduction to the Houtz Cello Method
Why did we create it?
There are two major flaws in traditional lessons:
1. They don't ensure that the student is practicing at home.
2. Students must cram a week's worth of info into a singular hour.
The Houtz Cello Method offers a solution to both issues.
How Our Method Works
Our method offers online private lessons through what we call Guided Practice Sessions.
What is a "Guided practice Session"?
It's a style of private lesson where the teacher alternates between 3-4 students using an innovative two-phase structure:
-
Phases of focused 1-on-1 time, and phases of practice time.
How do these phases work?
-
Each student receives phases of focused 1-on-1 time through several mini-sessions sprinkled throughout a 60 minute Guided Practice Session.
-
After each mini-session, a phase of practice time ensues to allow the student to master each tip in real-time before the teacher circles back around to follow up with more guidance.
-
Guided Practice Sessions are held on Zoom, and designed to be held multiple times per week.
What do Guided Practice Sessions offer that traditional lessons can't?
-
The ability to rigorously practice each tip while it's still fresh.
-
Drives students to practice diligently during practice time with teacher accountability.
-
Solidifies each tip in the student's mind before taking in new information.
-
Gives students access to private coaching multiple times per week.
